Truckers Warned to Be Extra Cautious as Truck Jackknifes on Wet, Dangerously Slippery Van Reenen Pass

Truckers are being warned to exercise extreme caution on the Van Reenen Pass on the N3 after a truck jackknifed on what appears to be a very wet and slippery road surface this Saturday morning, September 05, 2026.

According to videos sent to SA Trucker, one truck can be seen jackknifed on the pass, while another video shows a truck’s wheel spinning in one place as the vehicle struggles for traction on the wet surface.

The videos suggest that the road is currently extremely slippery, creating potentially dangerous conditions for heavy vehicles travelling through the pass.

It is not immediately known what is causing the road surface to be so slippery, but truck drivers are urged to reduce their speed, increase following distances and exercise extreme caution when travelling through the affected area.

The situation is developing, and further information about the road conditions and the cause of the slipperiness is awaited.
