The trucking community has united to support Barnes and Shaida Ramsamy, owners of Durban-based BMG Holdings, following the tragic loss of their 11-year-old daughter, Zarah Ramsamy.
Zarah was killed in a horrific car hijacking outside a fast-food outlet in Malvern on Wednesday evening.
She was hiding under her mother’s vehicle when the hijackers ran her over, leaving the Ramsamy family and the entire trucking industry in shock and grief.
A grade five pupil at Penzance Primary School, Zarah was remembered as a bright and kind soul who touched many lives.
On the night of the tragedy, four armed suspects accosted her mother, Shaida Ramsamy, as they were leaving the restaurant.
In a desperate attempt to hide, Zarah sought refuge under the car, but the hijackers fled with the vehicle, tragically running her over.
She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
CCTV footage of the heartbreaking incident has gone viral, sparking outrage across the country.
Police investigations into the murder and carjacking are ongoing, but no arrests have been made yet, according to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo.

Zarah’s funeral took place on Saturday at the Embassy Church in Mayville, followed by her cremation at Clare Estate Crematorium.
The trucking fraternity turned out in force to offer their condolences and show support for the Ramsamy family.
A moving procession of trucks, horns honking in solidarity, was seen in the Malvern area, where the family lives. “We stand together with Barnes and Shaida. No parent should ever have to face such a loss,” said one trucker at the funeral.
As the family faces this unimaginable tragedy, the trucking community continues to rally behind them, ensuring that they feel supported during this heartbreaking time.
