Two people have been killed in a fiery crash involving two trucks on N3 northbound just a few metres from the Heidelberg weigh bridge on Friday morning (18 December).
One other person sustained serious injuries and another five were taken to Heidelberg Hospital for further care.
According to Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate, spokesperson of Heidelberg SAPS, the accident occured just after 05h00 between the De Hoek Toll Plaza and the weigh bridge on the Johannesburg bound carriageway when two trucks collided.
It’s alleged that one of the trucks ran out of diesel and was stationary when it was hit from behind by the second truck.
The vehicles then caught fire. One of the vehicles was carrying numerous construction workers.
