A serious accident occurred early this morning, about 7km outside Ermelo, at the T-junction of the Chrissiesmeer (N17) and Breyten (R36) roads.
The crash, which happened before sunrise, involved a bakkie and a side tipper coal truck.
According to initial reports, the bakkie was coming from Chrissiesmeer and turning left towards Ermelo when it collided head-on with the coal truck, which was travelling towards Breyten.

The impact was so severe that both vehicles came to a stop roughly 50 meters from the collision point.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, despite misty conditions that reduced visibility.
The bakkie driver sustained serious injuries, while the truck driver suffered minor injuries.
Both were treated on-site before being transported to the hospital by ER24 paramedics.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling in the area, particularly in low-visibility conditions.
