Two Injured as Truck Plunges Off Bridge onto R23 in Heidelberg

Two people were seriously injured in a shocking early morning truck accident on the R42 HF Verwoerd Street bridge in Heidelberg, Gauteng. The crash, which occurred on Saturday morning, brought traffic to a standstill and required a massive emergency response.

According to Heidelberg Times, the incident took place when a truck carrying skips lost control while taking the slipway from the R23 onto HF Verwoerd Street, heading towards Shalimar Ridge. The truck smashed through the bridge railings and plummeted onto the area just off the R23 below.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, including Heidelberg SAPS, GPG Medical Services, Lesedi Traffic Department, Lesedi Fire and Rescue, Heidelberg Volunteer Medics and First Responders, Afriforum Heidelberg, and members of the Heidelberg CPF.

The publication confirmed that both occupants of the truck sustained substantial injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The recovery of the heavily damaged truck was completed, and the road is now open to traffic.
