Two men lost their lives in a horrific crash in Durban’s city centre early Friday morning after their car smashed into a truck.
According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, emergency teams were called to the intersection of Anton Lembede Street and Stewart Simelane Street shortly after 05:30 am.
“When paramedics arrived, the scene was chaotic,” Jamieson said. “A light motor vehicle had collided with the side of a truck and ended up jammed underneath it. The driver and his passenger were both trapped inside the wreck.”
Firefighters from the eThekwini Fire Department worked to free the victims, but sadly, both men, believed to be in their thirties, sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.

The area was cordoned off while police began their investigation into the cause of the crash. “At this stage, the exact cause is unknown,” Jamieson added.
The double fatal accident caused major traffic disruptions through the morning rush, with emergency services on scene for several hours.
