Two pedestrians have been struck dead by a truck on the R102 between Ottawa and Verulam, North of Durban on Tuesday morning.
Reports indicate that the two pedestrians were walking in the emergency lane when they were struck down by the truck.
On arrival Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) had started CPR on an adult male pedestrian who had gone into cardiac arrest.
An adult female pedestrian was assessed and found to have sustained fatal injuries and was sadly declared deceased on the scene.
In a combined effort between Netcare 911, RUSA and Durban Metropolitan Police Search and Rescue, return of spontaneous circulation was achieved.
Once stabilised, the patient was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he later passed away.
