New details have emerged about the road rage incident on the N3 near Westville, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday, where a 35-year-old truck driver was shot in the leg.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the altercation stemmed from a minor collision between two trucks, which escalated into violence.
The two men’s trucks collided on the busy highway.
Both drivers pulled over to the side of the road to address the accident.
A heated argument ensued, during which one of the drivers allegedly drew a firearm and shot the other.
Despite his injuries, the wounded driver reportedly retrieved his own firearm and fired two shots in response before managing to re-enter his truck and drive to the Pavilion Shopping Centre off-ramp for safety.

Tow truck operators at the scene witnessed the shooting and provided statements to authorities. Police have confirmed that the suspected shooter handed himself over and was not injured during the altercation.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
