Free State – Traffic is now flowing smoothly on the N1 between Kroonstad and Ventersburg after last night’s emergency closure due to an overturned truck carrying hazardous materials.
According to provincial authorities, the scene has been declared safe and the truck, which was previously leaking a gas-like substance, is now under the control of safety officers from the trucking company. No further risk to motorists has been reported.
“The swift response by all involved ensured a potentially catastrophic situation was brought under control quickly,” said Sipho Towa from the Road Incident Management System (RIMS). “The cooperation from the public and the professionalism of our emergency services were critical in managing the threat.”
The Free State Provincial Government has extended a heartfelt thank you to all emergency responders and law enforcement officials who worked tirelessly throughout the night.
Motorists are also thanked for their patience and understanding during the closure.
The public is reminded that in cases involving hazardous materials, it’s vital to follow instructions from emergency personnel and avoid approaching accident scenes.
