Tom’s Place – In the serious truck crash we reported on earlier this morning on the N1 between Bloemfontein and Colesburg, it has now been confirmed that the Triton Express driver tragically died at the scene.
The collision, involving a Triton Express truck and an Aspen truck, happened near Tom’s Place when the two articulated trucks collided head-on.
The impact was so severe that one truck’s cab was torn from its chassis, while the other was completely crushed.
The Aspen truck driver was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after being treated by paramedics on scene.
At the time of reporting, 16:30, emergency services had cleared the wreckage, but traffic was still slow in both directions. Authorities have urged motorists to slow down and be patient until traffic flow returns to normal.
The cause of the crash remains unknown at this stage, and an investigation is underway.
