SEKGOPO – A truck driver has tragically lost his life following the horrific accident on the R81 near Sekgopo in Limpopo on Friday, 22 August.
Earlier, SA Trucker reported on the crash after video footage showed a truck transporting bricks overturned and lying upside down with the cab completely crushed. At the time, fellow truckers who arrived first on the scene feared the worst as they could not locate the driver inside the mangled wreck.
Sadly, authorities have now confirmed that the driver did not survive the crash.
Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson, Mme Tidimalo Chuene, said the accident resulted in a full road closure.
“The R81 at kilometre 63.6 near Ga-Sekgopo is currently closed. The road is expected to remain closed from 15h00 to 17h00 today for vehicle recovery efforts,” said Chuene.
Emergency services and recovery teams are still at the scene working to clear the road.
