Update: Two Dead in R40 Car vs Truck Crash Seen in Viral Video

Two people died when the Mercedes-Benz sedan they were travelling in crashed into a turning truck at the intersection of the R40 and R37 in Mbombela on Sunday morning.

CCTV footage of the crash, which shows the Mercedes-Benz colliding with the truck at high speed, has gone viral on social media.

The crash occurred at 04:14 on Sunday, November 24.

A female passenger in the car died on the spot, while the male driver was transported to hospital in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, the crash is under investigation. However, it is suspected that the car’s driver had been speeding.

He urged motorists to adhere to road rules, especially during the festive season.

“Motorists should be wary of fatigue and how it affects their quality of driving. Do not speed to get to your destination; rather, take breaks along the drive,” he said.
