The Western Cape Government has issued an urgent call for motorists to travel with extreme caution as widespread flooding continues to impact road infrastructure across the province. The alert follows days of heavy downpours brought on by a powerful cold front that made landfall on Wednesday, 25 June.
According to the Department of Infrastructure, flooding and slippery roads pose significant hazards, and the public is strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel and never attempt to cross submerged roads or low-water bridges.
The Western Cape Mobility Department’s Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement officers have been deployed to manage traffic, close dangerous routes, and assist where infrastructure has been compromised.
“Our officers are working around the clock to respond to dangerous situations on our roads. I urge motorists to prioritise their safety and that of others by obeying closure signs, avoiding flooded areas, and exercising extreme caution. The safety of every resident is our top priority,” said Western Cape Mobility Minister Isaac Sileku.
