Vector Logistics has taken delivery of two Volvo Electric Trucks marking a milestone in the logistics company’s shift towards sustainable freight transport.
The Volvo FH 6×4 battery-electric trucks will operate in Gauteng and Cape Town, focusing on local deliveries with reduced emissions and lower noise levels.
Each Volvo electric truck is equipped with three electric motors, producing 665hp and 2,400Nm of torque, powered by six Volvo batteries with a total capacity of 540kWh.

When fully charged, they offer a range of 200 to 300km, making them suitable for regional distribution. To support operations, Vector Logistics has installed high-speed DC chargers at its depots to ensure that the Volvo Electric Trucks’ power needs are taken care of.
Despite concerns about South Africa’s electricity supply, Volvo Trucks’ Sustainable Solutions Manager, Eric Parry, believes smart route planning and controlled depot charging will ensure efficient operations.
Unlike passenger EVs, these Volvo electric trucks primarily rely on dedicated charging infrastructure, reducing dependency on public chargers.
Aside from zero exhaust emissions, the Volvo electric trucks offer a quieter and smoother driving experience, which is especially beneficial for night-time urban deliveries.
Vector Logistics drivers have undergone specialised training to optimise vehicle performance and battery efficiency.
With global carbon regulations tightening, logistics companies are increasingly considering electric trucks as a solution for lowering their carbon footprint.
While the transition in South Africa faces infrastructure challenges, Volvo’s expansion of electric truck technology signals a growing commitment to greener transport solutions.
