The South African trucking industry is mourning the passing of Rasmus Petrus De Beer, the owner of Merc-Man Transport in Vanderbijlpark.
De Beer passed away on 30 June 2026 after building a respected name in the transport industry over more than two decades. Merc-Man Transport became well known for the transportation of black products, serving customers with dedication and reliability.
His journey into the transport industry began as a mechanic, during which he developed a reputation for his technical skills. He later rebuilt trucks himself to establish and grow his own transport business, laying the foundation for what would become a successful fleet.
Through years of hard work and perseverance, he transformed his passion for trucks into a thriving transport company that earned the trust of customers and industry colleagues alike.
For many in the trucking fraternity, De Beers was more than just a transport operator. He represented a generation of hands-on entrepreneurs who understood every aspect of the business, from turning spanners in the workshop to managing trucks on the road. His experience and determination enabled him to build a company that stood the test of time in a demanding industry.
He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. His passing marks the end of an era for Merc-Man Transport and leaves a void that will be felt by his family, employees, business partners, customers, and the wider trucking community.

The thoughts and condolences of the trucking fraternity are with the De Beers family, the entire Mercman Transport team, and everyone whose lives were touched by Ras during this difficult time.
