A newly surfaced video has shed light on how the fatal accident on the N2 outbound at Kramat Road near Macassar in Cape Town occurred on Wednesday, 15 January 2025.

In the footage, the truck can be seen approaching the bridge at a lower-than-normal speed before its cargo—a large machine—collides with the bridge.

The impact causes the truck to come to an abrupt halt, while the machine falls off the flat rack container onto a car and a light delivery van driving alongside the truck.

A witness who stopped to help said:
“I got out of my car with other motorists, and we ran to assist. We managed to get one person out from the red VW Polo, but when we reached the mini truck, I could see the driver was already gone. It was too much to bear, and I had to leave the scene.”

“The driver of one vehicle, a male, sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. Five other victims — three males and two females, aged between 34 and 37 — sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”

Macassar police have registered a case of culpable homicide and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
