South Africans have been left reeling after the sudden death of popular TikTok creator, rapper and dancer Dugulth “Junior King” Ferreira, who was killed in a truck and car head-on collision on the N1 near Verkeerdevlei early on Thursday morning, 11 December 2025.
The 29-year-old performer, originally from Gqeberha, was widely loved for his high-energy dance videos, sharp lyrical flow and relatable online persona that helped him build a strong following on TikTok. Just days ago, on 5 December, he released his latest project, The Revenge Album, marking another step in his fast-rising career.
Emergency services were dispatched to the crash scene at around 07:25 after a FAW truck and a sedan collided head-on. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane confirmed that responders arrived to find extensive wreckage and one fatality. Junior King, who had been seated behind the driver in a grey Volkswagen Polo TSI, was declared dead at the scene.
According to SAPS, the Polo had been travelling southbound towards Bloemfontein when the crash occurred, while the truck, a brand new FAW solo horse, was moving northbound towards Winburg. Three other occupants in the Polo, including two of King’s young children and a front-seat passenger, sustained moderate injuries and were rushed to Pelonomi Trauma Hospital. Both drivers escaped unharmed.
Graphic videos circulating online have shown the severe impact of the crash, prompting widespread shock.

By Thursday evening, tributes had flooded social media from fans, fellow entertainers and organisations. DJ and radio personality Yuzriq Meyer wrote that he was struggling to accept the news, describing Junior King as “an important part of the culture” with “a heart of gold”. Rapper and creator Chesrae Megan said his encouragement had shaped her own music journey, adding: “Junior, I am in pieces.”
Anti-crime organisation Fight Against Crime SA (FACSA) praised his influence in Afrikaans hip hop, calling him “a rising force” whose storytelling gave a voice to communities often overlooked.
The family released an official statement this afternoon through spokesperson Lucinda Windvogel, confirming his passing and thanking South Africans for their compassion. They also confirmed that the children travelling with him were safe. “Junior King was a beloved son, father, brother and artist whose talent and energy touched countless lives,” the statement read.
SAPS has opened a case of culpable homicide as investigations into the exact cause of the crash continue.
Malume Vector was also killed in a collision with a truck on the same highway last year.
Junior King is being remembered as a vibrant, creative force whose life and career were only beginning to soar, leaving fans devastated by a loss that feels both sudden and deeply personal.
