Two trucks were set alight and looted on the M17 Addo Road, Motherwell, in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday evening, as a community protest turned violent.
The incident happened in Ward 53, Motherwell, where residents blocked off Addo Road as part of a service delivery protest linked to Human Settlements grievances.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality confirmed earlier that a delegation would be engaging the community in an effort to address their concerns.
Authorities have urged both motorists and truckers to avoid Addo Road until further notice. Essential services in the area may be delayed due to the unrest.
Truckers Alert: If you are heading towards Motherwell or the Addo Road corridor, make use of alternative routes for your safety. The situation on the ground remains volatile, and the road is currently blocked.
