A tragic bus accident on the N1 near Rouxpark in Worcester has left 8 people dead and several others injured after a bus lost control and overturned early on Sunday morning.
Western Cape Mobility Department spokesperson, Muneera Allie, confirmed the incident and described it as a serious crash with multiple fatalities and injuries.
“We confirm an incident on the N1 at the intersection with Roux Road in Worcester at 7:15 this morning where a bus overturned. Preliminary reports have indicated multiple fatalities and injuries. EMS, Fire, SAPS, and Traffic are on the scene. Updates will be provided once confirmed information is available,” Allie stated.
Emergency services, including paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement, rushed to the scene to assist with rescue operations and provide medical attention to survivors.
According to Priority Care, 8 people succumbed to their injuries on the scene despite the best efforts of rescue personnel.
Multiple patients sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical.
A Skymed, a specialised air ambulance, and Rescue 6, a specialised heavy motor vehicle rescue truck, were also dispatched to assist at the scene.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, and authorities are investigating the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
