Shocking video footage has surfaced showing a white Ford Ranger bakkie driving dangerously along the R40 near eBundu Lodge earlier today, moments before it crashed in what’s believed to have been a medical emergency.
In the 28-second clip recorded from a car behind, the bakkie can be seen weaving across lanes into oncoming traffic, narrowly missing three trucks and another bakkie. One motorist was forced onto the centre median to avoid a head-on collision.
Despite several oncoming drivers flashing their lights to warn the bakkie, the driver appeared unresponsive. As the vehicle approached a curve, it nearly climbed over the centre median before violently swerving back into the wrong lane, seemingly overcorrecting. Moments later, the bakkie veered off the road, crashing down an embankment and landing onto the bush below.

According to reports, the passenger attempted to regain control of the vehicle but was unsuccessful as it overturned after leaving the dual-carriageway between Mbombela and Rocky Drift.
ER24 paramedics confirmed that both the driver and passenger sustained only minor injuries. They were able to walk to another vehicle and were treated at the scene, with no hospitalisation required.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Authorities suspect the driver may have suffered a sudden medical emergency, which led to the erratic driving. The incident is under investigation.
