WATCH: Brave Female Trucker Fends Off Robber in Daring Cab Confrontation

Video footage circulating on social media shows a brave female truck driver fighting back during an attempted robbery somewhere around Pretoria.

In the video, the woman is seen driving before stopping, presumably at a traffic light, when an unknown male suspect opens the passenger door and jumps into the cab without permission. The man can be heard calmly saying, “Can you take me to Pretoria North, sister,” as he settles into the passenger seat, giving the impression that he is a hitchhiker.

However, the situation quickly escalates.

According to the footage, the female trucker initially appears fearful and compliant, seemingly playing along while assessing the threat. As the suspect continues speaking and allegedly demands her cellphone, she discreetly reaches into the door pocket and grabs a canister of pepper spray.

Moments later, she sprays the attacker directly in the face. As the suspect recoils in pain, she can be heard shouting repeatedly, “Never, never, close that door, bas…!” The attacker immediately abandons the attempt and flees the scene on foot.

The incident has drawn widespread reaction online, with many praising the trucker for her composure, quick thinking, and refusal to be intimidated in a highly vulnerable situation.

Truck drivers, particularly those operating alone, are increasingly targeted by criminals who exploit moments of isolation. Female truckers face an added layer of risk, making awareness, preparedness, and self-defence tools crucial in today’s operating environment.

This incident comes on the heels of another separate violent confrontation on the N3 near Heidelberg, where an armed truck driver shot an alleged hijacker during an attack. While the Heidelberg case involved lethal force and remains under police investigation, this incident highlights a different outcome, one where resistance and non-lethal self-defence were enough to stop the crime.

Both incidents underline a troubling reality on South Africa’s roads, truck drivers are increasingly forced to defend themselves in the absence of immediate law enforcement presence.

Authorities continue to warn motorists and truck drivers not to pick up hitchhikers and to remain alert at all times, especially along known high-risk routes.

No injuries were reported in this incident. Watch the video below:
