CCTV footage of a serious crash in which a Freightliner Argosy overturned on the Townhill in Pietermaritzburg has surfaced online.
This stretch of the N3 is infamous for its sharp curves and steep gradient.
Many truck accidents occur there for many reasons including brake failure and overspeeding.
It must be noted, however, that most of the brake failures that occur in such places are initially caused by the driver’s failure to obey speed limits or the road sign to engage low gears.
According to the video, the accident happened on Sunday morning.
In the 14-second video clip, the Argosy can be seen approaching the infamous curve after Peter Brown road interchange.
It looks like the driver has already lost control of the truck as it approaches the curve speeding.
The right side wheels lift up and the truck flips then slides for a distance, spilling its load along the way.
The truck driver was seriously injured and is recovering in hospital.
