Barkley West – Another crash has rocked the R31 just outside Barkley West early this morning, barely 24 hours after a serious accident happened in the same area.
This morning’s incident involved a rigid truck that reportedly rear-ended a side tipper interlink, causing the latter to jackknife and block the road. The impact forced the rigid truck off the road, while the interlink ended up sprawled across both lanes, making the stretch impassable.
An SA Trucker who drove past the scene at around 06h08 confirmed that no emergency services had arrived at the time. The area was the scene of a hectic accident just yesterday afternoon.
In that earlier crash, a car veered into the path of a truck, causing a collision that saw the truck land on its side. Dashcam footage from that incident was shared by SA Trucker and clearly showed how things unfolded.
As for this morning’s crash, the cause is not yet clear, and the conditions of the truck drivers are also unknown at this stage.
Motorists travelling between Barkly West and Kimberley are urged to avoid the area or prepare for serious delays while recovery efforts are underway.
It’s becoming clear that this section of the R31 needs urgent attention – whether it’s better signage, stricter speed enforcement, or some form of traffic calming. Two major crashes in two days can’t be brushed off as coincidence.
More details will follow as soon as they become available. Watch the video below:
