overloaded taxi with spar employees

A taxi has been caught with a total of 30 people in Spar uniforms, in direct contravention of the lockdown rules which states that taxis should load up to 70% full to allow social distancing and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

A video of authorities counting 29 passengers as they disembark from the taxi plus the driver is making rounds on social media. It, however, could not be established where the video was taken.

In the video, only five people are wearing masks, on the fifth person, however, the mask hangs carelessly on his neck.

The official who is counting the passengers can be heard telling them to go inside the police station.

Despite the widely shared education around the importance of social distancing, people have continued to ignore these warnings.

Another video of the Hazyview community stampeding to loot a meat truck after it was involved in an accident shows how the community has ignored warnings.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 positive cases has risen to 1655, an increase of 70 from the previous recorded cases.

Another two deaths related to COVIS-19 have been reported taking the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in South Africa to 11. The two deceased patients were an 82 year old female and an 86-year-old male.

The number of tests to date total 56 873, an increase of 2 936 from those reported yesterday.
