The N3 freeway came to a standstill on Thursday night after two separate but serious truck accidents near the Sasol Garages at Roadside.
The first crash occurred when a fuel tanker collided with another truck leaving debris and cargo scattered across the roadway.
Moments later, a second collision took place in the same area, involving two more trucks. The chaotic scene forced authorities to temporarily close the busy route to ensure the safety of motorists and to allow for cleanup operations.
A video shared by an SA Trucker who passed the scene early Friday morning, around 05h20, shows recovery teams hard at work clearing the wreckage.
In the footage, recovery trucks can be seen removing the damaged vehicles while workers clear the roadway of cargo and debris.
Motorists using the N3 were advised to expect delays or use alternative routes until the road was reopened. By Friday morning, efforts to restore normal traffic flow were well underway, with the road expected to reopen shortly.
Thankfully, there have been no immediate reports of fatalities or serious injuries, but authorities are continuing investigations to determine the cause of both crashes.
