Watch | Driver Injured After Jumping Off Runaway Truck in Heidelberg Crash

A truck driver was injured in an accident on Friday afternoon after his truck reportedly lost braking capabilities and crashed into an abandoned building in Heidelberg.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Ueckermann and Jacobs Streets, where the driver reportedly jumped from the vehicle to avoid injury.

The runaway truck sped through a stop sign on Ueckermann Street and crashed into the old Absa building at the intersection with Jacobs Street in central Heidelberg.

Fortunately, the building was empty at the time, preventing further injuries.

Residents have voiced their concerns on social media about the frequent presence of trucks in the CBD and the chaos they cause.

One resident commented, “Trucks are not allowed on that street. I am interested in knowing at what speed he was travelling at for him to go inside that building, as it is a T-junction on a very busy road… We need to address this issue!”

Another witness shared, “It happened right in front of me. The truck was going about 60 km/h. I saw the driver trying to handle something inside the truck or maybe trying to jump out… It almost hit me.”

The incident has raised questions about truck regulations in the area and the need for stricter enforcement to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
