durban storm floods highways

Durban – Following a warning by the South African Weather Service of extreme weather conditions affecting much of KwaZulu-Natal, a very strong storm hit Durban and surrounding areas leaving highways flooded in some parts on Thursday evening.

It was a day of extremes as during the day temperatures sowed to upper 30s while later in the evening very strong winds and heavy rains poured to cool the otherwise very uncomfortable temperatures brought by the heat wave which rocked KwaZulu Natal for the past week.

The rainy and windy conditions are expected to continue through Thursday night to Friday morning.

Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of heavy falls and strong, damaging winds are expected to persist in parts of the province.

Insurance companies have also issued a hail warning.

Forecasters predict temperatures to be around low to mid twenties on Friday bringing relief to the effects of the recent heat wave.
