Watch: Ezimbokodweni N2 Bridge Reopens Ahead of Schedule

The Ezimbokodweni N2 bridge on the southbound carriageway has officially reopened to light motor vehicles, offering a much-needed relief to motorists.

The reopening follows extensive inspections and final tests by the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL).

Initially predicted to reopen at the end of November, the bridge was made accessible a week earlier than planned, much to the relief of drivers and residents alike.

Ward 97 Councillor André Beetge confirmed the development, saying, “We can confirm that SANRAL’s project management team has progressed to the point of conducting final tests. They are confident the road could be reopened sooner than expected.”

The reopening comes as a major win for commuters travelling from Durban to the South Coast, who have faced heavy congestion on alternative routes since the closure.

The bottleneck at key intersections such as Joyner Road and Prospecton/Andrew Zondo Roads has caused significant delays for weeks.

With the southbound carriageway now open for light vehicles, traffic flow is expected to improve drastically, easing pressure on surrounding detours.

Authorities have expressed appreciation for the patience shown by the public during the temporary closure.
