Two security guards were injured in a dramatic cash-in-transit (CIT) heist on the N2, which led to the temporary closure of the highway.

The heist took place on Tuesday evening near bridge 10, situated between Gingindlovu and Mandeni.

In footage circulating on social media, the armed robbers are seen forcefully blasting the cash van and loading bags of cash into a white Isuzu bakkie, believed to be their getaway vehicle.

Both were stabilized by IPSS Advanced Medical Life Support before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.

Due to the heist, traffic on the N2 was redirected via the R102, with motorists instructed to use the Gingindlovu and Mandeni off-ramps until the road was cleared.
