m7 petrol tanker

Traffic is heavily backed up on Edwin Swales drive (M7) following a petrol tanker crash with two small cars on Friday around midday.

Emergency services are at the scene just after the Hans Dettman on-ramp, where the tanker truck and two vehicles collided.

It is believed that the tanker truck, which was travelling west towards Pinetown, veered off the road and encroached onto oncoming traffic and collided with the cars.

“Two people were trapped and the jaws of life were used to cut the patients from the wreckage,” he said.

Both victims are in a serious condition but have been stabilised on scene.

He said a helicopter has been called to the scene to transport them to a nearby hospital.

Mathios urged motorists to find alternative routes.

Emergency services are still on scene and traffic is severely affected.
