alberton truck petrol bombed

A truck driver who was admitted to hospital on Wednesday evening with severe burn injuries after his truck was allegedly petrol-bombed near South African Breweries (SAB) premises in Alberton, east of Johannesburg died a few hours after admission.

The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) fire and rescue team responded swiftly to the call, with a team of 10 firefighters and two fire engines from the Thokoza Fire Station.

DEMS district manager media liaison William Ntladi told SA Trucker in a statement that one trailer of the truck was severely damaged and added that the cause of the fire is still unknown.

The severely injured truck driver was stabilised by paramedics on site before being transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Sadly, the man passed on just hours after being admitted.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
