The N1 northbound is currently closed approximately 15 kilometres outside Polokwane following a fatal collision involving a heavy motor vehicle and a sedan.
The crash happened in the early hours of Friday, 4 September 2026, at around 00:48, near Mekete Lodge.
According to information received, the truck was transporting poles, which were scattered across the roadway following the collision. The extent of the damage and the circumstances leading up to the crash have not yet been confirmed.
Emergency services, traffic officials and law enforcement officers are at the scene, with a recovery operation currently underway.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has confirmed that the affected section of the N1 remains closed, with traffic reportedly not moving while officials work to clear the scene.
Motorists travelling north are urged to avoid the area if possible, exercise extreme caution and follow instructions from traffic officers.

Alternative routes recommended include the R81 or R521 until the N1 has been cleared and reopened.
Motorists should expect significant delays and allow additional travelling time.
