Watch: N1 closed after truck and 2 cars collide, burst into flames near Beaufort West

The N1 highway is closed just after Beaufort West towards Three Sisters after a truck and 2 cars collided and burst into flames this Sunday morning.

SA Truckers on the scene reported that three vehicles are currently on fire and both lanes have been closed.

Western Cape Transport and Public Works spokesperson, Jandré Bakker, advised motorists to use alternative routes until the accident scene is cleared.

“We are urging road users to please abide by the rules of the road. Never speed, only overtake where it is lawful and absolutely safe to do so, keep a proper following distance, and ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy,” added Bakker.

He said a stop-and-go system will be put in place as soon as emergency response teams declare the scene safe to pass.

“We do not know how long this would take. There may be times during the day when the road is closed again for the recovery of the wreckage,” Bakker said.

Videos shared by SA Truckers on the scene showed the truck and one of the cars burning. In another video, looters can be seen helping themselves from the trailer of the truck after the fire had been exringuished.
