A serious crash involving a sulphur-carrying truck and several vehicles has shut down the Kranspoort Pass (N11 Middelburg/Groblersdal) in both directions on Monday morning.
The incident, which happened in the direction of Groblersdal in Mpumalanga, has left multiple people injured and caused a dangerous chemical spill on the busy route.
One of the vehicles involved caught fire and was seen burning in dramatic footage shared online, while hazmat teams were immediately dispatched to contain the sulphur spill.
Initial reports suggest that the truck lost its load of sulphur while descending the pass, causing chaos as other vehicles crashed into the spillage.
The sulphur spill poses a serious risk to both the environment and human health, prompting the full closure of the N11.
Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the area entirely and use alternative routes until further notice.
