Mtubatuba – The N2 at Mfekayi towards Mtubatuba has been closed to traffic following a violent cash-in-transit (CIT) heist that took place just after 17h00 this evening.
A source who passed the scene moments after the blast told SA Trucker that emergency personnel were only just arriving while he managed to capture footage of the bombed-out cash van.
The van, completely destroyed from what appears to be a high-powered explosive, is currently lying across the roadway, partially blocking traffic and causing major delays in the area.
At this stage, it remains unclear if there are any injuries or fatalities, as authorities are still securing the scene and beginning their investigation.
The N2 is currently closed in both directions between Mtubatuba and Mfekayi as police and bomb squad units assess the situation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.
