Watch: N2 Closed for Several hours After Fatal Truck and Car Crash

One person has been killed following a head-on collision between a timber truck and a Hyundai i20 on the N2 between Kei and Kugompo, bringing a tragic update to the earlier crash that saw the route completely shut down.

According to information from the scene, the female driver of the light motor vehicle was declared dead on impact, while the truck driver escaped with minor injuries. Emergency services and law enforcement remain on site managing the situation and coordinating recovery operations.

The crash has once again highlighted the dangers along this busy stretch of the N2, especially where heavy vehicles operate alongside smaller passenger cars. Early indications suggest a severe impact, with debris scattered across the roadway, further complicating clearing efforts.

The road was closed for several hours as teams worked to remove the wreckage and clear remaining debris from the earlier log spillage. This has caused major disruptions for long-distance operators and general traffic moving between the Eastern Cape’s key corridors.

Motorists travelling towards King William’s Town and Gqeberha were diverted via the R63 through Bhisho, turning off after Kei Cuttings near Thomson Farm when approaching from the Mthatha side.

Those heading towards Komga and Port Alfred were being rerouted via Chaffle Road, with re-entry onto the N2 at Gonubie.

This incident remains under investigation, and further details are expected as officials continue their work on site.
