Watch: N3 Chaos After Truck Collision Blocks Both Bounds Between Shongweni and Marianhill

Traffic is quickly backing up in both directions on the N3 after a collision between two trucks between Shongweni and the Marianhill Toll Gate around midday this Wednesday.

According to early reports from drivers stuck in the backlog, a truck travelling towards Durban allegedly smashed into the back of a tautliner. The impact caused the driver to lose control and the truck ploughed straight through the centre median barrier, landing on the Pietermaritzburg-bound side.

Two lanes heading towards Durban are currently shut as the first truck that was struck is blocking the roadway, and on the Pietermaritzburg side the truck that rear-ended the other is lying sideways across two lanes. Only one lane is squeezing through on each side which is causing serious delays stretching several kilometres already.

Emergency services and recovery crews are on scene trying to stabilise the situation and clear the wreckage, but it is going to be a long wait for anyone already caught behind the jam. Motorists heading both directions are urged to exercise patience, drive with caution, and consider alternative routes if possible.
