Watch: N3 North Brought to a Standstill After Livestock Truck Overturns Near Tugela River

Traffic on the N3 northbound came to a grinding halt on Tuesday morning after a serious crash involving two trucks – one carrying livestock – left the highway completely blocked near the Tugela River.

According to reports from the scene, the livestock truck is believed to have slammed into the rear of a side tipper before losing control and overturning, landing on its side and obstructing both lanes of traffic. Emergency services, including paramedics, police, and towing operators, rushed to the scene to assist with recovery efforts and attend to the injured.

The collision caused significant delays as traffic built up for several kilometres in both directions. Motorists travelling along the route have been urged to drive with caution and consider alternative routes where possible.

Tragically, several cattle were killed in the crash, and debris from the wreckage and the animals scattered across the road contributed to the extensive closure. Authorities have, however, confirmed that no human fatalities have been reported at this stage.

At the time of publishing, 09h00, clean-up and recovery operations were ongoing, before the busy freight route was fully reopened.

Truckers using the N3 northbound are advised to plan for extended delays or delay their trips until the road is cleared.
