One person has been killed following a serious collision involving a side tipper truck and a bakkie on the N10 near Olifantskop, on the Paterson side.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene earlier today after reports of a head-on collision on the busy route. On arrival, paramedics confirmed that the driver of the bakkie had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending formal notification of next of kin.
According to information from the scene, the crash has left the roadway partially obstructed. Both vehicles are occupying two lanes, leaving only one lane open to traffic. A stop-and-go system has been implemented to manage traffic in both directions, and motorists are advised to expect delays while emergency services and traffic officials work to clear the scene.
Video footage circulating from the scene suggests that the truck and the bakkie collided head-on under circumstances that are still unclear.
The footage shows the side tipper truck having come to rest facing the opposite direction from which it was travelling, while the bakkie remained in its lane. The exact sequence of events leading up to the crash has not been confirmed at this stage.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding possible contributing factors, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Motorists, especially truck drivers using the N10 in the Olifantskop and Paterson area, are urged to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and be prepared for sudden stops.
