One person has tragically lost their life following a devastating head-on collision between a hatchback and an articulated truck on the N12 westbound just before the Halfontein Road offramp on Monday morning.
Emergency services responded swiftly after receiving the call at approximately 09:46. Rescue teams from both Etwatwa and Springs fire stations arrived on scene to find the hatchback severely crumpled, with its sole occupant, an adult male driver, trapped inside.
Using hydraulic rescue equipment, firefighters worked meticulously to extricate the man from the wreckage. Despite their efforts, paramedics declared him dead on scene due to the extensive traumatic injuries sustained.
The truck driver involved in the incident, fortunately, escaped without injury.
Footage captured by a passing trucker in the immediate aftermath of the crash shows the chaotic scene as rescue operations commenced. Both directions of the freeway were closed temporarily to allow emergency teams to safely conduct their work.

Officials from the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) are investigating the cause of the crash, which remains unclear at this stage. Forensic Pathology Services later removed the deceased from the scene.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution and be patient as authorities work to determine what led to the fatal crash.
