truck crashed into bank in mokopane

One person burnt beyond recognition when a truck carrying lime plunged into cars and caught fire in Mokopane last night.

The accident happened on the corner of Retief and Thabo Mbeki road in Mokopane.

Mogalakwena Local Municipal media liaison officer Malesela Selokela said in a statement that the truck which was heading to the South direction lost control and plunged in the nearest bank.

“Five cars (sedans) were involved in the accident as the truck driver lost control, other drivers were rushed to hospital while and one driver in a sedan was burnt beyond recognition.

“It is not yet known what could have caused the accident.

According to information recieved from a source at the scene says the driver was avoiding a head-on collision with a bakkie which was turning to the East direction.

“Apparently the truck driver and the passenger are still trapped in the truck which has plunged inside the bank and municipal officials are working around the clock to safe their lives.

The Mogalakwena Local Municipality Mayor, Her Worship Cllr Andrina Matsemela who is also at the scene sympathies with the drivers and passengers in the vehicles and the shop owners.
