The Limpopo Department of Transport has issued a warning about smoke on the R101 and N1 highways after fierce veld fires brought some thick smoke to the roads significantly affecting visibility.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution when approaching the fires in the vicinity of Modimalle and surrounding areas.

This comes in the wake of a horrific accident that led to the demise of a family of 7 on the same stretch of the N1 highway on Friday the 27th. It was suspected to have been caused by smoke coming from a veld fire nearby.

Two trucks and nine motor vehicles were involved in the horrific accident. All the vehicles were gutted by the blaze.
