Watch: Petrol Attendant Makes Split-Second Escape as Bakkie Crashes into Forecourt

A petrol attendant had a lucky escape after a Toyota bakkie driver lost control and ploughed into a garage forecourt on the R555 just outside Witbank towards Middelburg.

The dramatic incident, captured on CCTV, occurred on Sunday, 16 February, at 06h58.

In the first video, the Toyota bakkie can be seen speeding towards the intersection next to the garage before the driver loses control.

The vehicle veers straight for the forecourt, sending attendants scrambling for safety as it barrels toward them.

Moments later, the bakkie crashes into another bakkie that was being refuelled, bringing it to a sudden halt.

The second video shows a petrol attendant caught in a moment of panic as the out-of-control vehicle approaches at high speed.

Uncertain which way to run, he hesitates before making a split-second decision to dash to the right – an instinct that may have saved his life.

Just seconds later, the bakkie smashes into the vehicle he had been refuelling on his left.

After a few seconds, the bakkie driver emerges from the vehicle.

No injuries were reported, but the crash left a trail of damage at the station. The cause of the accident remains unclear.
