A shocking crash on the N2 between Umdloti Beach and La Mercy, KZN, this afternoon left a white VW Polo ripped in half after it slammed into a light pole.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said they received multiple emergency calls just after 12:00 and dispatched paramedics and officers to the southbound carriageway. By the time they arrived, several emergency services were already on scene, working to secure the area.
The wreckage painted a grim picture – the Polo was split into two sections with debris scattered across the busy highway. Despite the devastating impact, the 27-year-old driver miraculously escaped without life-threatening injuries.
Motorists passing by were left stunned at the sight of the mangled car, which looked like something out of a movie scene. Authorities worked quickly to cordon off the area, manage traffic and remove the wreckage to restore the flow.

At this stage, the exact cause of the crash is unknown.
