Pretoria – The N1 southbound carriageway was brought to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon as protesters blocked the highway near Sefako Makgatho Drive.
The incident caused significant traffic disruption and left commuters stranded for hours.
Protesters used buses and trucks to create an impenetrable barrier, ensuring no vehicles could pass through the blockade.
The demonstration effectively halted traffic flow between Sefako Makgatho Drive and Phumlani Plaza.
Preliminary reports suggest that the blockade was initiated by NSW bus drivers, though this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

According to video footage sent to SA Trucker, three buses parked across the highway, with additional trucks reinforcing the blockade.
Authorities were on the scene attempting to manage the situation and negotiate with the protesters.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the situation was being resolved.
The reasons behind the protest remain unclear, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
