A trucker’s sharp reflexes saved the day after a reckless VW Polo driver suddenly veered into his lane at high speed, forcing him off the road to avoid a deadly collision on the R503 between Klerksdorp and Hartbeesfontein.
The dramatic incident was caught on camera, proving that truckers are often blamed for crashes they aren’t responsible for.
In the video, the trucker can be seen driving steadily in his lane at a safe speed when, out of nowhere, the Polo swerves directly into his path – not overtaking, not making a sudden manoeuvre, just blatantly crossing onto the trucker’s lane.
With no time to react in any other way, the trucker veers off the road, preventing what could have been a disastrous crash.
Fortunately, in this case, had a collision occurred, the video would have been undeniable proof that the trucker was not at fault.
But as truckers know all too well, social media commentators rarely check the facts.

The moment a truck is involved in an accident, fingers are pointed at the driver, regardless of what actually happened.
Some will likely still use this incident to push the tired argument that “there are too many trucks on the road because the railway system has collapsed,” as if the truck itself was the cause of the near miss rather than the Polo driver’s reckless driving.
As for why the Polo driver crossed into the truck’s path? We may never know, but logic suggests they were likely distracted – probably glued to their cellphone.
