Watch: R600 Closed Outside Winterton Following a Cash-in-Transit Heist

The R600 has been closed to traffic following a cash-in-transit heist that unfolded on the evening of Monday, 25 August, just after the Winterton turn-off.

According to reports from the Ladysmith Herald, the scene quickly filled with police, emergency officials, private security, and local farmers responding to the chaos.

During the heist, a local farmer was caught in the crossfire when heavily armed suspects opened fire. The farmer sustained injuries and was treated on scene before being rushed to hospital in a private vehicle. No other injuries have been confirmed at this stage.

Authorities have cordoned off the road, treating it as an active crime scene while investigations continue. Motorists, including truckers, are being diverted and urged to avoid the area until further notice.

The R600 will remain closed until law enforcement gives the all-clear.
