Another truck has overturned on the N3 southbound at Town Hill in Pietermaritzburg, marking the second such incident in less than 24 hours.
This latest accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, just after the Peter Brown bridge.
It comes on the heels of a similar crash on Friday night in the same area.
The N3 southbound was completely closed for over 5 hours due to the crash.
While the exact causes of both accidents remain unclear, it’s deeply concerning to see incidents piling up on a stretch where trucks are required to maintain a strict 60km/h speed limit.
Earlier in the day, another truck driver narrowly avoided disaster by utilizing the arrestor bed less than a kilometre from the latest crash site.
These incidents serve as a grim reminder of the risks posed by the steep downhill stretch on Town Hill.
SA Trucker urges all drivers to take precautions when navigating this treacherous route.
Truckers are strongly advised to stop at both mandatory stops to check their braking systems and ensure everything is in working order.
It’s equally important to adhere to the speed limit of 60km/h. However, excessive braking to maintain this speed can also lead to brake failure, potentially causing further accidents.
As of this writing at 18h00, traffic was still moving past the crash scene, but delays may occur when recovery operations begin.
