The N3 Toll Route has been shut down near Swinburne, between Van Reenen and Montrose, in the Free State following a serious crash involving a minibus taxi and a truck early on Thursday morning.
According to a statement from N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), the incident occurred around 06h30 at N3-7X 3.6 N, northbound between Van Reenen and Swinburne.
The crash is reported to have been fatal, but emergency responders on the scene have not yet confirmed the number of casualties.
SAPS and emergency services are currently attending to the crash scene, and cleanup and recovery operations are under way.
Motorists travelling between Van Reenen and Swinburne have been advised to expect heavy congestion and significant delays for most of the morning.
N3TC has urged road users to approach the area with extreme caution and to consider delaying travel if possible.

“Please approach the area with caution,” the statement read. “The N3 Toll Route is currently CLOSED near Swinburne following an earlier fatal crash between a minibus taxi and a truck.”
