A dramatic crash involving two trucks on Namibia’s B2 highway left a fuel tanker engulfed in flames, causing major traffic disruptions between Swakopmund and Arandis.
The collision occurred approximately 24km from Swakopmund towards Arandis when a fuel tanker reportedly rear-ended another truck. Moments after the impact, the tanker burst into flames, sending thick black smoke into the air and prompting an emergency response.
According to information from the scene, two people sustained injuries in the crash. Emergency medical personnel treated both patients at the scene before transporting them to hospital for further medical care. The extent of their injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The incident resulted in severe traffic congestion along the busy coastal route. Authorities temporarily stopped traffic in both directions while emergency crews worked to secure the scene and contain the fire. At the time responders were leaving the scene, traffic on the Swakopmund side had already backed up for an estimated 2 to 3 kilometres.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the B2 has fully reopened or if traffic restrictions remain in place. Motorists travelling between Swakopmund and Arandis are advised to expect delays and follow instructions from traffic officials on scene.
The cause of the crash is expected to form part of an official investigation.
